Isner
defeated Kevin Anderson and Dudi Sela in 2013 and 2014 respectively to
equal compatriot Mardy Fish’s record of two titles at the ATP 250 event.
Isner will once again lead the field in 2015 and Anderson has also
confirmed his return as he attempts to avenge his 2013 loss.
The
BB & T Atlanta Open has consistently been dominated by US players
since its inception in 2010. As aforementioned Fish was the first
two-time champion after he won the inaugural editions in 2010 and 2011
respectively. Fellow American Andy Roddick clinched the title in 2012,
while Isner has been successful throughout the two most recent editions.
The
BB&T Atlanta Open marks the beginning of the US Open Series in the
lead-up to the last Grand Slam of the year. It keeps track of standings
as the players battle throughout late July and August on the hard courts
of the USA, all leading up to the big event in New York. A win at the
BB&T Atlanta Open could be a huge boost for any of the top players
in competition.
Isner was made to save two
match points against Anderson in the 2013 final and he recorded a more
straight forward victory against Sela 6-3, 6-4 last year to keep the
tradition of a home champion alive. He consequently enters the 2015
edition with a 16-3 win-loss record in Atlanta and his only losses were
against former champions Roddick (2012) and Fish (2010 and 2011). Other
players who have confirmed their participation include fellow home
favourite and former semi-finalist Jack Sock, Donald Young, Vasek
Pospisil and the always entertaining Marcos Baghdatis,
Roddick
will also be returning for an exhibition match and remarkably he will
also partner Fish in the doubles event as Fish continues his comeback.
